麻豆社 of Denver to Host 2nd Annual Black Male Summit for DPS Students

麻豆社 of Denver (CCD) is hosting its second annual Black Male Summit (BMS) to inspire students of Denver Public Schools (DPS) to continue their education after high school. The half-day event will take place on Saturday, February 29th from 9:00 a.m. 鈥 3:00 p.m. in CCD鈥檚 Confluence Building located at 800 Curtis Street on the Auraria campus.

Dr. Rolundus Rice, or 鈥淭he Dapper Dean鈥 as he is affectionately referred to by his students, will share his own story of his 鈥淧ilgrimage to Purpose鈥. Dr. Rice was appointed dean of humanities and fine arts at Talladega College in Alabama and is one of the youngest academic deans appointed at a four-year university in the United States. He has also been identified as a subject- matter expert on the civil rights movement.

CCD鈥檚 BMS is a day of celebration and fellowship, encouraging DPS students and their families to learn about CCD and the importance of a college education. The event will include inspirational speakers, community leaders, and student mentors. Informational workshops are planned for both students and their guardians.

To help defray the cost to attend college during their first semester, the DPS seniors in attendance will receive a $500 scholarship.

Workshops:

  • CCD Student Panel
  • Barber Shop Talk, 鈥淐ut to the Chase鈥
  • Guardian Workshop
  • Paying for College
  • Academic Pathways that lead to success and completion at CCD

CCD鈥檚 Black Male Summit is funded by the 麻豆社 of Denver Foundation through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Irwin, the Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce, Denver International Airport, Rose Andom, Richard Lewis, and many others.
